Twenty-three years at one bench.
Trained in Europe, working in America. Every piece that leaves this shop was drawn, set and finished here, by hand, by the person who hands it back to you.
A shop is a counter. This is a bench.
Adriano Jewelry stands at 333 Washington Street, in downtown Boston. Behind the cases there is a bench, a lamp and a microscope, and almost everything the store sells is made a few steps from where it is sold. Nothing is sent out. Nothing comes back from a factory with somebody else's finish on it.
Most of what comes through the door starts as a drawing, a photograph, or a sentence somebody has been carrying around for a year. Some of it arrives broken, and some of it arrives having belonged to three people already. All of it leaves finished by hand.
Four things, done properly.
The bench does not do everything. It does these, and it has been doing them for twenty-three years.
