Every piece begins as a drawing.
Custom jewelry made from a drawing, a photograph, or a sentence you have been carrying around for a year. Designed, set and finished at one bench in Boston, by the person who hands it back to you.
Made a few steps from where it is sold.
Adriano Jewelry is a jeweller's bench at 333 Washington Street, in downtown Boston. Behind the cases there is a bench, a lamp and a microscope, and a custom piece is drawn, made, set and finished there. Nothing is sent out to a factory, and nothing comes back with somebody else's finish on it.
Bring whatever you have: a drawing, a photograph of something you saw, a stone from an old ring, or only the idea. Twenty-three years at the bench, after training in Europe, is what turns it into something you can wear. All of it leaves finished by hand.
How a commission runs.
From the first visit to the day the piece goes home.
-
The first visit
Walk in Monday to Saturday, or book a half-hour visit. Bring the drawing, the photograph, or nothing at all.
-
The drawing and the agreement
The piece is drawn before it is made. Every commission runs to a written agreement covering the design, the materials, the price and the timeline, and a deposit, applied to the final balance, is taken before work begins.
-
At the bench
Once you approve the final design, the piece is made, set and finished by hand. Timelines are honest estimates: stone sourcing, casting and setting can run long, and you are told as soon as a date will move.
-
Collection
The balance is due before the piece leaves the shop. The workmanship is guaranteed against defects for a year, and the settings and clasps of pieces bought here are checked once a year, free of charge.
Your own stone, your own gold.
A stone from an inherited ring, or gold you would rather keep in the family, can go into the new piece. You confirm it is yours and free to be worked.
Older stones and mounts can carry hidden stress. Any risk we can see is pointed out before work starts, but a stone you supply cannot be guaranteed against damage during setting. For an old piece that should stay as it is, see heirloom restoration.
Questions about custom work.
- Do I need a finished design before I come in?
- No. A drawing, a photograph or an idea is enough to start. The design is drawn and agreed with you before anything is made.
- Can I use my own stone or gold?
- Yes. You confirm the material is yours to have worked. Older stones and mounts can carry hidden stress; any risk we can see is pointed out before we start, but a supplied stone cannot be guaranteed against damage during setting.
- Is there a deposit?
- Yes. Custom work needs a deposit before it begins, and the deposit is applied to the final balance. Once you have approved the final design and work has started, it is non-refundable to the extent of the labour and materials already committed.
- How long does a custom piece take?
- The timeline is set out in the written agreement for each commission. It is an honest estimate: stone sourcing, casting and setting can run long, and you are told as soon as a date will move.
- Can a custom piece be returned?
- No. A commission is made for you alone and cannot be resold, so it is not covered by the fourteen-day return window that applies to stock pieces. Your rights where a piece is genuinely faulty are not affected. The full terms are in the terms and conditions.
